In the wake of the horrific discovery of 215 bodies at a former residential school in Kamloops, and what’s been described as a “terror attack” against a Muslim family in London, Ontario, many organizations are looking at ways to clamp down on racism across the country. For St. John’s east MP Jack Harris, looking at the internet is one of the ways to do that.
Harris stresses the need to “fix the failings” of Canada’s society and institutions. which is something everyone needs to be involved in.
He points to the “hatred” that is present on the internet, noting that measures must be taken to end those sentiments.
He points to big social media companies who he says can use their algorithms to stop hateful messaging. He states it is up to government to make sure such companies are doing that.
