Premier Andrew Furey and members of his cabinet checked out the set of Hudson & Rex, where there is a big focus on keeping things local.
The television show is filming scenes down at Middle Cove Beach. Just over 100 crew members were on set as the team filmed a few minutes of footage.
Paul Pope of Pope Productions says in total about 200 people work on the show, with about 150 of those being in this province.
He explains that their goal is to be completely local—and with their crew right now, only about eight or nine are from away. He does note, however, that the industry is growing, and they will need to bring in some people from away.
Premier Andrew Furey was impressed by what he saw and says the show has done a great job furthering the province’s position on the map for the film and TV industry. Furey points to money set aside for the industry in the budget.
“We know we’re good at this,” says Furey. He states that the province has “only scraped the surface” of the industry.
