The official opposition is joining the chorus of calls for improvements to the province’s health care system, particularly as it relates to a shortage of front-line personnel. Nurses and paramedics say they are run off their feet.
Meanwhile, there have been complaints of excessive wait times in emergency rooms. For example, John Riche, says he took his mother, who suffers from Stage 4 cancer, to emerge at the Health Sciences Thursday. Despite her suffering from pain, they were still in the waiting room over 6 hours later. He says they ended up leaving without treatment.
Update. After 6.5 hours in the ER my sister took my mother, who has stage 4 cancer, out of the ER and took her home… without being seen. She was in considerable pain and just wanted to go home and rest. We gave her all the pain meds we could. All she needed was antibiotics.

Health Critic Paul Dinn says the government’s denial of the nursing crisis is harming families in their time of need. He’s inviting Premier Andrew Furey to visit some emergency rooms to see the situation for himself.
