The Innu Nation is demanding full disclosure of the $5.2-billion agreement between Ottawa and the province on rate mitigation.
In a fiery statement, Grand Chief Etienne Rich accused both governments of dishonesty and secrecy surrounding the deal.
He notes Muskrat Falls was built on Innu land, with the New Dawn agreement giving governments the OK to proceed.
But Rich fears the benefits for Innu in that agreement could now be in jeopardy with the new financing.
Despite all that, he says it was disrespectful for the Innu to learn of the agreement through the media.
Meanwhile, Premier Andrew Furey says lessons have been learned from the rollout of the deal this week.
He’s offered to meet with Innu on the issue separately from the weekly get-togethers of all Indigenous groups in the province.
