A man from Nain has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of another man in the community on Friday.

Twenty-six-year-old Manasse Bennett was arrested after RCMP responded to a report of an assault at a home.

Police say the 50-year-old victim was rushed to the local clinic for treatment but died of his injuries a short time later.

There was no mention of a weapon or what time the incident occurred.

Bennett made a brief court appearance Saturday morning but is due back before a judge on Monday in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Various agencies are involved in the investigation including the RCMP’s major crime and forensics sections and chief medical examiner’s office.
