Two high-profile criminal cases were called in the courts this morning.
One involves a repeat sex offender picked up over the weekend, while the other is a murder case linked to a killing on Roaches Line more than a month ago.
Dressed in orange prison attire and a white t-shirt, 30-year-old Patrick Sulurayok made his first public appearance in court since being charged with second-degree murder.
The man from Nunavut is accused of killing Bernard Otuk, also from Nunavut, in an altercation at the Hillside Cottages on the night of June 22.
The two men were crewmembers on a Baffin Fisheries vessel that was docked in Bay Roberts.
Police were called around 9 p.m. after reports of an unresponsive man. The victim was rushed to hospital in Carbonear but died a short time later.
RCMP have not said how the victim died.
In Supreme Court this morning, Sulurayok was granted bail on strict conditions so he can leave the province to continue working while the case winds its way through the courts.
If he breaches any of those conditions, he must pay $5,000 to the court, while two people from Nunavut have also agreed to put up $1,000 each while ensuring he abides by the court orders.

Meanwhile, repeat sex offender Matthew Twyne was expected in court this afternoon to answer to his latest alleged breach of conditions.
Twyne was arrested yesterday near his Mount Pearl residence, once again accused of failing to stay away from places where kids are known to play, such as parks and swimming pools.
The Crown has said they will not be consenting to his release at this time.
