One person is in custody following an alarming crime spree in Bay Roberts, Thursday night.
Communications director with the RCMP Glenda Power says police began receiving calls after 8:30 reporting a series of incidents in the town.
That included reports of a stolen vehicle, someone attempting to break into an ambulance, thefts from sheds, and a vehicle crashed into a backyard—which turned out to be the vehicle that was reported stolen. All told, 25 calls were submitted in relation to the spree.
They called in extra resources to assist with their investigation. Power says at one point 14 officers had their boots on the ground in Bay Roberts.
Power says ensuring people’s safety was at top of mind.
When it comes to such incidents, Power says a concern is the potential for escalation.
Yesterday afternoon, police confirmed that one suspect was in custody. No charges have yet been laid, but they may come down as the investigation is ongoing.
Residents are asked to check their dashcams and video surveillance on their properties Thursday evening from 8:00 onward.
Anyone with information is encouraged to touch base with the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
