Two Independent MHAs are calling on government to address issues surrounding motor vehicle registration after fielding complaints from the public.
Long lineups, unanswered calls, online system issues, and a lack of appointment times have all been impeding the process according to some users of the system..
The MHAs for Mount Pearl-Southlands, Paul Lane, and Humber-Bay of Islands, Eddie Joyce, say something needs to be done.
Lane says most of what is done at MVR is time-sensitive.
He references rotational workers who need their licence or registration renewed and may not have a large window of time to get it completed.
He says while he believes the pandemic has shown ways to be more efficient and cost-effective, you also have to meet people’s needs.
He says motor registration has not been doing that, and unless something changes, they should revert to the pre-pandemic system.
