Six new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Eastern Health region, as the Chief Medical Officer of Health says a “small cluster” has popped up in St. John’s.
Four of the cases are travel-related, while two are close contacts of previously-identified cases.
There have also been three recoveries since the last provincial update, leaving twelve known active cases in Newfoundland and Labrador. There is currently no one in hospital due to the virus.
Health officials are asking anyone who visited the Tim Horton’s at 283 Portugal Cove Road in St. John’s on Thursday, August 12, between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to arrange for testing. That doesn’t apply to anyone who visited the drive-thru.
CMOH Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says officials are closely monitoring a “robust wave” of infections in the United States. She says they are ready in the case they must pivot on their advice for back to school.
Dr. Fitzgerald is encouraging everyone, especially parents who have not yet been vaccinated, to book an appointment as soon as possible.
