Eric Squires has been denied parole.
It took a two-person panel of the parole board less than 10 minutes to make the decision during a hearing in New Brunswick this morning.
Squires was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Nina Walsh in her downtown St. John’s home 25 years ago.
Walsh, a 39-year-old mother of two, was stabbed to death by Squires on September 28, 1996 in her Avalon Street home.
But this morning, Squires showed no remorse and instead insisted he didn’t commit the crime, adding he still wants to appeal the verdict.
Squires is the father of Brandon Phillips, who was convicted of murder in the shooting death of Larry Wellman at the Captain’s Quarters bar in St. John’s in 2015.
