Visitors are being warned about ticks in Terra Nova National Park.
The park says blacklegged ticks, a species known to carry Lyme disease, are becoming more common in the area.
Parks Canada says the chance of contracting Lyme disease is slim. While the illness is serious, it is easy to treat if caught early.
Visitors in high-risk areas are advised to wear light-coloured, long-sleeve shirts and pants to help spot ticks more easily. It’s also recommended that people walk on cleared pathways, bathe within two hours of being outdoors, put outdoor clothes in the dryer for ten minutes on high heat, and do a daily full-body check.
