The president of NAPE is raising the alarm, as the St. John’s-metro region has entered a red alert.
A red alert occurs when no ambulance is immediately available to respond to an emergency.
With Hurricane Larry upon the island, the union president, Jerry Earle, says frontline paramedics are concerned, as even before the storm is underway, they were overwhelmed.
Earle is unsure how long the alert will last or if there will be further alerts.
Earle calls this “unacceptable” and says it has to be addressed.
VOCM News has reached out to the Department of Health, but is yet to receive a reply.
