Newfoundland Power says some power outages will continue throughout the night as crews continue to fix the damage caused by Hurricane Larry.
The company says all main power lines are back on, and they’re now focusing on smaller pockets of customers.
However, some will be without power overnight. They say customers whose power isn’t back by 10 p.m. will likely be without it throughout the night.
Crews will continue working, but they say progress is slower in the dark.
The day started with about 61,000 customers in the dark. Spokesperson Michelle Coughlan says they have restored service to about 53,000 customers, leaving approximately 8,000 still without power.
The outages cover the metro region and the rest of the Avalon Peninsula as well as the Burin Peninsula, Clarenville and Bonavista.
Coughlan says they are continuing with damage assessments, tree removals and will continue to update estimated restoration times as they become available.
Updates on estimated restoration times for specific areas can be found here.
