VOWR is back on the air after a lightning strike knocked out the volunteer station’s transmitter back in late August.
VOWR tweeted out an update yesterday showing that a new transmitter had arrived and thanking their many donors, sponsors, radio friends and volunteers among others for the support shown.
Turn on your radio to 800AM. VOWR is back on full steam! Thanks to every last one of you – our donors, sponsor, peers in radio, TV and print, insurers, and especially our volunteers, technicians, and you. VOWR is your station.
My God, we haven't been this happy since 1924.???? pic.twitter.com/7zf8g2jRfs— VOWR 800 Radio (@VOWR800) September 25, 2021
The radio station, which has operated out of Wesley United Church on Patrick Street for close to 100 years, is among the province’s oldest. NL New Country, which is owned by Stingray, offered to broadcast VOWR’s weekly church service while they awaited the arrival of a new transmitter.
Inside this case is our brand new transmitter. Stand by for a follow-up Tweet shortly. It'll be a good one. ?????? pic.twitter.com/AepvaPGXn9
