The premier is making it clear. There will be no leniency for unvaccinated healthcare workers without a valid exemption when it comes to the province’s vaccine mandate for all public sector workers.
The new policy requires all those who work in the public sector to be fully vaccinated. Anyone who is not may be placed on leave without pay. However, amid staffing shortages of healthcare workers, questions were raised about whether we can afford to suspend ANY workers.
Premier Andrew Furey says while he expects that all healthcare workers will be vaccinated, any who don’t pose danger in our hospitals.
He says a healthcare worker exposing someone who is immunocompromised to the virus is unacceptable. He says staffing shortages have been considered, and they are hoping and expecting that it will not be a big problem.
