Ronald McDonald House in St. John’s unveiled its new Movie Theatre yesterday after renovations spanning several months.
Christine Morgan, director of development and communications for Ronald McDonald House, says one of the favourite pastimes is watching movies and playing games together, and they wanted to create a special place for families to do just that.
She says the idea for a remodel of the old TV room came in part due to a local donor, Byron Driscoll with Kylo Construction, who used his connections in the community to bring things together.
Several organizations stepped up to make the room a special place, where children can escape their daily challenges. Electronics, signs, drapes and more dawn the new room.
Twelve-year-old Austin, who has been at the facility since April, says the new and improved theatre room is his favourite part of the building, adding that he’s always ready to play a video game with anybody who is willing.
