Premier Andrew Furey says the people of Newfoundland and Labrador are ready for the belt-tightening the province is facing on several fronts.
In his keynote address to the provincial Liberal Party’s virtual AGM on Saturday, Furey highlighted the tough decisions still to come for the government and, in turn, its people.
But he stated Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are ready for it.
He says the issue is not the number of challenges facing the province, but how the government and population deal with those challenges, adding “they are ready.”
Furey also announced there will be a review of the rules that govern the party’s leadership process, particularly around financing and financial disclosure.
Meanwhile, elections for the party executive, if necessary, will happen at a later date through electronic voting.
Several awards were also presented, including the young Liberal of the year award which went to Matt Babb, and the J. Aidan Hennebury award for volunteerism to party vice-president Judy Morrow.
