The Chabad of Newfoundland will be hosting their fifth annual menorah lighting ceremony over the weekend.
The menorah, a symbol of Hanukkah and the Jewish faith, serves as a token of hope and light, something that Rabbi Chanan Chernitsky says is much needed.
He says everyone is feeling the need to connect and socialize, and where the menorah lighting is an annual event, that sense of normalcy is has a positive impact on mental health.
He says everyone is invited, regardless of their beliefs.
(He says Hanukkah has a universal message of hope, tolerance and freedom of religion.
He says there’s a lot of talk about inclusion surrounding the holidays, and to be inclusive, people need to see beyond the walls of what they’re use to.
Officials from all levels of government will be in attendance, with Lieutenant-Governor Judy Foote lighting the middle candle.
The event will be a drive-in event at the Viking Building Parking Lot tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
