An update to a story VOCM News brought you earlier this week.
A local contractor has come forward offering to help rebuild Clayton’s Wharf in Charlottetown, a structure made famous in the Buddy Wassisname and the Other Fellers classic, Saltwater Joys.
Roxanne Weinheber, who is on the Charlottetown Local Service District, decided to spearhead a fundraising campaign to raise funds to restore the landmark which had fallen into disrepair after it was damaged in a storm several years ago.
She was surprised on the second day of the campaign to get a message from Dennis Lawlor of Denco Construction and Marine Services Limited in Paradise asking her to give him a call.
She says they spoke and he indicated what needs to be done to the structure. When she asked him if he was willing to make a donation, he told her he was willing to replace the structure entirely. “I was just overwhelmed” says Weinheber.
Lawlor tells VOCM News he’s been looking for a way to give back to the community and says this is the perfect opportunity.
