The provincial government will introduce changes in the House of Assembly Monday that will provide an eight cent a litre break on the taxes charged on gas and diesel fuel.
The province announced measures last Thursday to help address the rising cost of living stemming from skyrocketing fuel prices.
Those measures include a 50 per cent reduction in the provincial portion of the tax on gas and diesel, and a one-time subsidy for those who heat their homes with oil later in the fall.
Premier Andrew Furey says if all goes well, the tax break should be applied to gas and diesel prices sometime this week.
The Premier indicates the eight cent tax cut will equate to about $100 in savings to the average driver over the duration of the program which ends in January of 2023.
