The Opposition is pressing the provincial government to cancel its plans to introduce a new tax on sugary drinks in the fall.
The 20-cent-a-litre tax is intended, according to government, to help people make healthier choices and improve health outcomes
Opposition finance critic Tony Wakeham says the tax is just another blow at a time when people are already struggling with the rising cost of living.
Wakeham asked Finance Minister Siobhan Coady whether she will eliminate the tax, but the minister indicates the tax will help make the province more healthy.
