Canadian Blood Services is making a plea for blood donors after the number of regular blood donors dramatically dropped off during the pandemic.
Community Development Manager with Canadian Blood Services, Gord Skiffington says they’re experiencing the lowest number of regular donors in a decade.
The number of regular donors dropped by more than 31,000 over the course of the pandemic, and now that surgeries and procedures are resuming, demand is starting to rise.
They estimate they’re going to need 100,000 donors by the end of the year to keep up with hospital demand.
Tuesday was World Blood Donor Day and this is National Blood Donor Week. VOCM is hosting a blood drive at Canadian Blood Services on Wicklow Street in St. John’s on Thursday, June 30th.
