The town of Gander is preparing to host an NHL pre-season game between the Montreal Canadians and Ottawa Senators this fall, and for the town’s mayor, the game represents a full circle moment for the area.
The game is part of the prize for the town of Twillingate, who won Kraft Hockeyville in 2020.
However, the arena in Twillingate couldn’t accommodate the game, so the NHL reached out to Gander to see if they could host the event.
Mayor Percy Farwell stresses that while they are hosting the matchup, this will be “Twillingate’s game.”
However, he says they are excited for the opportunity, noting that it’s good for the entire region.
Farwell details a unique bit of history connecting the two towns for the game. He explains that the arena that will be fixed up from the Hockeyville money is a former hangar that was brought to Twillingate from Gander. Farwell says it shows just how connected and dependent the area is on each other.
