The operator of the Salmonid Interpretation Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor says the impact fires in central Newfoundland had on local salmon populations is yet to be determined.
Kim Thompson says she has been in contact with DFO about the impact on salmon but says the main run had already started to peter out by the time the fires started.
The peak of the salmon run on the Exploits River is in July, “so we had passed the peak anyway” says Thompson. In the meantime, they ensured that the salmon had safe passage up the Exploits on their salmon ladder.
