The Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture is charging several individuals for salmon poaching throughout the summer.

On July 26, Resource Enforcement Officers caught three people in New Perlican after an 80-foot long gill net was set in coastal waters in the community, with a salmon that was still alive entangled. The fish was released and charges under the Fisheries Act are pending.

On August 3, officers found a gill net set in inland waters near Stoneville that contained 19 dead salmon. The net measured 85 feet and had completely spanned the river. A few days later, two men were caught retrieving salmon from another net set in the river, about a kilometer away from the initial net. The two set nets, a third 70-foot net that was not set, a canoe, and one salmon were seized. Charges are pending.
