Some wet and stormy weather on its way for much of Newfoundland.
A special weather statement is in effect for many areas including the Connaigre, Burin, and Avalon Peninsulas today, as thundershowers and significant rainfall is set to pummel the region. Widespread rainfall amounts are most likely to reach 15 to 25 mm, with 45 mm in heaviest showers.
Meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, Dale Foote, says a deep, moist, unstable air mass is stretched across the Maritimes and the island, with the potential to push the upper boundary.
He says the air mass could have more than 45 mm, so rainfall warnings are in effect. He says there’s still a lot of uncertainty of where the showers and thunder will line up.
