One of the greatest and most recognizable sports trophies in history has arrived in St. John’s.
Alex Newhook, who won the Stanley Cup this year as a member of the Colorada Avalanche, hoisted the prize before a cheering crowd at St. John’s International Airport this afternoon.

Today’s arrival was mostly attended by family, friends, the Celtic Fiddlers, media and others who happened to be at the airport.
Newhook’s first stop with the cup was Ronald McDonald House.

The big celebration is set for Monday, with a parade throughout downtown St. John’s.
The event begins at 2 p.m. at Bannerman Park before winding up at the stage on George Street.
