The NDP is raising concerns about apparent delays in the rollout of the monkeypox vaccine in the province.
St. John’s Centre MHA Jim Dinn says he’s learned about men who were placed on the call list the day the vaccine distribution was announced, but have yet to be booked for a vaccine.
Dinn says eligible patients who reached out have been put on a waitlist with no follow-up as to when they will actually receive the vaccine, while others have reached out to local clinics who had no information about the rollout.
He says it is concerning that other provinces have already offered clinics to communities at greatest risk and it appears as though this province made a delayed announcement “in haste without the supports and resources to follow through.”
He says time is of the essence with the expected influx of university and college students in the coming weeks and government needs to get the vaccines distributed to those at greatest risk and secure a supply for a second dose and continued vaccination.
