Among the agreements signed this week with German officials in Stephenville was an MOU between a German shipyard and Newfoundland-based Oceanex to design more environmentally-friendly vessels for their fleet.
The head of German shipyard Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellshaft and Executive Chair of Oceanex, Sid Hynes signed a Memorandum of Understanding to design a climate-neutral ConRo vessel, described as “critical” to future vessel replacement planning at Oceanex.
The partners intend to investigate the use of alternative fuels such as ammonia, methanol, synthetic and biofuels as well as hydrogen.
