The NL Federation of Labour is raising the alarm about changes to Employment Insurance once temporary measures imposed during the pandemic expire September 24.
Access to EI was made easier when COVID struck to help those who were sick, isolating or who lost work due to shutdowns and layoffs.
The Federation of Labour says without those supports, life would have been much worse for millions of Canadians.
President Mary Shortall says removing those temporary measures will be devastating for workers, especially those in seasonal industries.
She’s urging Ottawa to “leave EI alone” and extend current Recovery Measures as “a bridge to permanent EI improvements.”
