Eastern Health now taking appointments for its annual Women’s Health Day clinic at the Health Sciences next month.
Pap tests will be offered by female staff from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15.
A Pap test is a simple test that can help prevent cancer of the cervix. If you are sexually active, the Canadian Cancer Society recommends that Pap testing begin at age 21. The test identifies cell changes that occur before cancer develops.
According to Eastern Health, approximately one in ten tests may come back with an abnormal result, but it might not necessarily mean a patient has cancer, it will simply require a follow-up with a doctor or health care professional.
