A rally is planned for Bannerman Park in St. John’s today to call for a comprehensive regularization program for the approximately half a million undocumented people currently living in Canada.
The Migrant Action Centre has held similar rallies across the province to swiftly implement a promised regularization program and to ensure permanent resident status for all 1.2 million students, workers and refugee claimants in the country with temporary status.
Today’s rally at 1:00 p.m. follows the deaths of migrant farmworkers and public statements by Jamaican workers who have likened their working conditions to “systematic slavery.”
The Migrant Action Centre says approximately 1 in 23 Canadian residents do not have equal rights in this country and it wants action.
