NL 211 has been an active service for two years and thus far it is being touted as a success.
The service was launched in 2020 by United Way NL with funding through the federal government.
Executive Director Katie Green says NL 211 is a phone line, online portal, and web chat that helps connect people with social, community, and government services such as food banks and mental health services.
The line is open 24/7 and offers support in over 100 languages.
Green says there are a lot of great services out there but sometimes they are hard to find.
She says someone might call looking for food, but after talking to one of their navigators they find out that there’s housing and employment stress too. She says their staff are trained to work through the “greater issue at hand.”
