Things are looking good for this weekend’s Downtown Santa Claus Parade in St. John’s.
The parade was cancelled last weekend due to rain and high winds, but Gaylynne Gulliver of Downtown St. John’s says this Sunday looks good.
She says all the participants, including the Jolly Old Elf himself, will be available this weekend.
The parade will start from the Fort William Building in the east end at noon, travel down Duckworth to Prescott, and then to Water Street where it will wrap up at Springdale Street.
Families are reminded to bring along a non-perishable food item or loonie or toonie for the Community Food Sharing Association, while letter carriers from Canada Post will also be collecting letters to Santa along the parade route.
A free Metrobus shuttle will be available from the Confederation Building parking lot to Bannerman Road and from the NL Housing Building on Canada Drive to the Mary Brown’s Centre.
A number of road closures and no parking zones will be set up along the parade route.
Meanwhile, the owners of the A.P. Parking Garage in downtown St. John’s are offering free parking to Santa Claus Parade-goers this weekend.
President and CEO of Sonco Group, Michael Novac, says it’s their way of giving back to the community.
The facility has seen a number of improvements over the last few months including the installation of two EV charging stations, with 24/7 parking and Flex passes coming soon.
