A local film maker is being recognized posthumously by the Canadian Cinema & Television Academy with a 2023 Special Canadian Screen Award.
Paul Pope passed away in April following a short illness leaving a huge void in the local film and television industry. Pope was recognized across Canada for his work as a founding member and former President of NIFCO and for his work on hundreds of films and television productions including Hudson and Rex.
Pope is being honoured with an Academy Board of Directors’ Tribute, as “a giant in the Canadian media production community and an advocate for the industry in Newfoundland.”
The Academy says Pope is recognized for “his tireless promotion of the province and the work of his company, Pope Productions.”
Other Special Award honorees include veteran actor Catherine O’Hara, Lisa LaFlamme and Ryan Reynolds.
