It’s “odd sock day,” a time to bring attention to Down Syndrome and advocate for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with the genetic condition.
People are encouraged to wear odd socks on this World Down Syndrome Day to get the conversation going.
Advocate and Down Syndrome Society board member Caron McDonald is the mother of 10-year-old Lilly, who has the genetic disorder.
McDonald says the society was able to expand its services from the switch to online driven by the pandemic.
She says they now offer services right across the province whereas previously most of their programs were offered only in the St. John’s area.
They provide speech and language services via the online platform. The society is mainly based in St. John’s but she says there are members based in central and western as well.
