A man is dead after an ice fishing trip turned tragic on the Burin Peninsula.
RCMP say the elderly man was reported missing on Thursday after failing to return from ice fishing near Petite Forte.
Police say his body was later found near the shoreline of a pond near the community.
They say it’s believed he may have fallen through the ice.
The death is being investigated by the RCMP and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The man’s name was not released.
