The cause of a fire at St. John’s International Airport last month appears to have been electrical.
The CEO of the St. John’s International Airport Authority, Dennis Hogan, says while they have not received official word on the cause of the fire, it appears to have been electrical in nature.
Hogan says the airport was damaged on the eastern side of the terminal and that the focus going forward is on remediation of that section.

Gates 10 and 11 remain closed, along with the lower level commuter corridor and the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge.
He says the lounge should be back online in a couple of weeks, while gate 11 is expected to reopen in time for the busy summer travel season around mid-June, followed by gate 10 after that.
The commuter corridor is expected to reopen in the fall.
