The father of a young autistic boy who was unable to attend school for weeks because he couldn’t access a student assistant to help him on the bus is offering his thanks now that the situation has been resolved.
Chris Pearce of Howley reached out to VOCM News earlier in the week in frustration with the situation involving his eight-year-old son Ashton.
Pearce told News Talk on VOCM on Monday that Ashton was unable to attend school in Deer Lake for three weeks because a student assistant—required to help him on the hour-long bus ride—was not available for both trips back and forth to school.
The Premier, who is the MHA for the area stood in the House of Assembly yesterday to say the matter had been addressed.

Pearce says he’s thankful for the quick action and says Ashton is delighted to be back at school.
Pearce says the Premier heard his call and got directly involved to deal with it personally.
“If it wasn’t for being on your program” says Pearce, “I don’t think any of this would be possible, I’d still be fighting.”
