Alan Doyle has released a rendition of a song dating back to one of the most significant battles during World War II.
The longest battle lasted for the entire duration of the war, ending on May 8, 1945.
Though the ‘Barber Pole Song‘ has been recorded by Doyle, it was wrote by Anthony Paddon, who served as a Surgeon Lieutenant Commander during the battle.
Paddon’s son, Dave Paddon, current President of the Crow’s Nest says during the war, his father would spend a lot of time there between convoys.
Through his time serving, he became inspired to write about his experience during the war.
Paddon was inspired after hearing the traditional tune The Road to the Isles on the radio. He decided to write his own lyrics to the same tune about life in the 5th Escort Group which ultimately became the Barber Pole Song.
