A search is underway for an elderly man missing on a trouting trip on the Avalon Peninsula.

He was reported overdue to Holyrood RCMP around 10:00 p.m. last night.

The Central Avalon Ground Search and Rescue was called out along with the Avalon North Wolverines and the Rovers Ground Search and Rescue.

A portion of the Trans Canada was temporarily closed in the area of the Rod and Gun Club to allow a Cormorant helicopter to land. It is now reduced to one lane eastbound.

Drivers on the Trans Canada are asked to watch for first responders and slow down in the area between the Rod and Gun and the Holyrood Access Road.
