Rainfall has become more than welcome in Labrador as the fire hazard index sits at moderate to high for some areas.
A fire ban is currently in place in Lab City and Wabush with temperatures soaring into the 30s.
Current maps show five active wildfires in the big land, with more burning in nearby Quebec.
Provincial Fire Duty Officer Jeff Motty says they have to be mindful when deploying resources given crew shortages and having one of the province’s water bombers out of commission.
He says they are very cautious on where and when to send their waterbombers, but points out they have additional resources also available. The province also has five helicopters located throughout the province that help fight forest fires through the use of Bambi buckets.
