The Association for New Canadians is looking for host families to take in a Ukrainian family for up to five months.
Financial support is available but the program is much more than a money transaction. Kerry Murray of the Association for New Canadians says none of the immigrants have yet been placed, but the objective is to integrate with the local community. That way they can more easily transition to a new country and new customs.
Murray says not only the newcomers benefit—so too will the host family.
He says at the same time, the local family gets a better understanding of Ukrainian culture. Murray says you’re providing a safe and secure home so that they can move temporary accommodations to more permanent accommodations, so it’s a win-win situation for all.
