The CEO of Team Broken Earth is hopeful that their approach to improving health care locally can be expanded to other jurisdictions.
The organization is usually geared toward providing medical relief in areas where natural disasters have occurred, specifically in Haiti. However, since the pandemic, Team Broken Earth has been holding education and training seminars in areas of Labrador.
Recently, they received $250,000 from the Northpine Foundation to do similar work in remote and rural areas of the province, particularly as it relates to women’s and children’s health.
Art Rideout says the first sessions of that initiative will begin on the Northern Peninsula in the coming months, and he is hopeful that they could eventually do similar work in other jurisdictions.
He says they already teach at the various schools in their communities, and their ultimate goal is to provide similar services right across Canada.
