The best teams in the curling world are coming to St. John’s next year.
It might still be a year out, but the anticipation was palpable for the announcement at Mary Brown’s Centre this morning.
The 2024 KIOTI National Grand Slam of Curling event will bring together the top 16 mens and womens teams in the world, including the hometown Gushue rink.
Representatives with Sportsnet, the city, the province, as well as business and tourism representatives blocked a section of the arena this morning to celebrate this morning’s news.
The brand new CEO of St. John’s Sports and Entertainment, Brent Meade, was also in the house for his first major event since being appointed two months ago.
Brad Gushue, fresh off a big win in Japan earlier this week, was a little under the weather and represented by longtime third Mark Nichols, who called on locals to come out in droves and put the place up a year from now.
Early bird tournament passes go on sale Friday for the event which is set for November 26 to December 1 next year.
