The Mayor of Stephenville is brushing off concerns surrounding the recent resignation of three town councillors and the town’s Chief Administrative Officer.
Councillors Tracy Boland, Tristan Hulan and Lenny Tiller all announced their resignation over the last month for a variety of personal reasons.
CAO, Jonathan Galgay, who accepted a job with the town in November, is also moving on, with job interviews to fill the vacant position starting today.
Mayor Tom Rose says by-elections to fill the council vacancies are taking place on March 6.
In the meantime, Rose says the new Code of Conduct adopted by the town is creating added strain on staff and council alike.
He says Code of Conduct complaints tie up a lot of money, time and resources.
Rose claims that the vast majority of complaints made have been frivolous in nature. He says that, coupled with growing scrutiny and concerns surrounding a number of controversial projects in the Stephenville area, adds to strain.
He says some people are not happy with the decision to hand the Stephenville Airport to the Dymond Group, some are not happy with plans for wind and hydrogen development in the area and others are not happy with his leadership as mayor.
