A permanent tribute to six-time Brier winners, Team Gushue is in the works in the Galway development in the capital city’s west end.
Former premier and Dewcor owner Danny Williams says he vividly remembers Team Gushue’s gold medal-winning game at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics.
At the time a provincial holiday was declared to allow people to watch the gold medal match.
Williams says he’s approached the city of St. John’s to create a permanent structure in Galway, with a final design nearing completion.
Williams says no city funds are being requested for the work to pay tribute to what he calls some of the greatest athletes the province has ever produced.
