The waste facility on Bell Island will be closed for the foreseeable future after vandals caused “considerable damage” to the site.
Officials with the Eastern Regional Service Board don’t know exactly when it happened, but say it prevented the site from opening this week for regular seasonal operations.
They say a window of the shelter used by the site attendant was smashed out, signs were vandalized, and fencing was ripped open.
In a social media post, the board said the site will reopen when it’s safe to do so.
