Women in the local business community are looking to the future at the Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs annual conference.
The two-day conference continues in St. John’s today at the St. John’s Convention Centre.
NLOWE CEO Jennifer Bessell says things are changing, but the challenges women entrepreneurs face are age-old.
Bessell says women have to endure a great deal of bias in the workplace and within the business community. She says women entrepreneurs still have an expectation of doing more within the home—such as child care responsibilities—and there is a still wage gap.
She says these issues are not changing, and although things are getting a little better on those fronts, a lot of work still needs to be done.
Bessell says organizations like NLOWE are important for that reason. She says they exist to give women the opportunity to come together, work together and shatter glass ceilings together.
