As the weather warms up, and more people are getting outside, the Nature Conservancy of Canada is offering tips on how to enjoy the great outdoors responsibly.
The organization is holding a webinar called “Outdoor Fun, No Damage Done” Wednesday evening to discuss how to enjoy nature without damaging local ecosystems and species.
Panelists will go over the seven principles of leaving no trace, share best practices around planning wilderness outings and answer questions such as, “Is it ok to toss my apple core into the bushes?” and “Can I let my dog off leash while hiking?”
The Nature Conservancy has nature reserves across the country, and although visitors are welcome, guests are asked to be conscious of their surroundings and to tread lightly in all environments.
Conservancy spokesman Andrew Holland says the best approach is to be prepared. He says to learn about the birds and the local wildlife population, and stay on trails as going off the beaten path can damage the soil and plant life
The webinar takes place on May 1 from 7 to 8 p.m.
Those looking to register can do so on the organization’s website.
